research examples

This weeks reading were on other examples by some past students. The examples of their website with the final research project helps in different ways.the examples first of all help us in our organization skills, with this we have an idea as to how to go about putting together the final project and giving it a meaningful flow. The examples secondly also aid us in a way that we are able to learn to put the information we have from our previous essays together, connecting with each other and not just thrown all over the place in the essay. There were different ways the essays were broken down in the examples. Some of them were in sub titles, others in a narrative form and others also in journal forms as well.

bowling alley

The bowling alley's final project brings together the whole research in one piece with a better meaning and understanding to it.the piece is put together by the days she went to observe as well as her observations in subtopics. One way to organize a long research is either by the days or by activities or like journals or subtopics. She has hers in subtopics making it easier to understand and with a really good organization. the bowling alley is a family  business owned where people come together to have fun and also to compete with each other. The writer also adds a little history or background information to the paper to give the reader a little information before going into the actual project. She also explains how people interact with her site as well as how she also has some childhood connection to the alley. The paper is well organized and has all the in depth definition of what an ethnography is and is a perfect example of what our overall piece should look like. I also love the titles she had for her subtopics especially "my life in rented shoes","who would have thought" and the best of all "come together", which is basically the theme of the paper because the alley is where all families come together to spend time with each other and have fun.

Interview

Interviewing  involves certain steps that make the interviewer have really good and concrete ideas from the person being interviewed. When interviewing someone you should have a flexible schedule so as to be able to come back if there is the need to. People who do not have flexible schedule end up looking at their watches during the interview to make sure they are on top of time, but you should not have a limit to an interview because you never know how much information the person being interviewed is wiling to give out and if he or she would be able to meet up with u again some other time to finish up. You need to also dress appropriately for the occasion and not shabby like you don't care about it and also look interested and look the person being interviewed in the eye to show interest and good listening skills. When interviewing, you should make sure you are at a good location to not have all these distractions so you can focus on each other. Also one major thing about interviewing is the kind of questions you ask. don't ask closed ended questions like "do you have a dog"? but rather open ended questions like "how did you feel when you first found your dog"? this allows the interviewee to express him or herself in a complete sentence and not a short phrase like yes or no. after the interview you have to make sure you say thank you to show appreciation to the interviewee for spending time or taking time off his or her busy schedule to meet up with you for the interview.
When done with the interview and you putting it in your work don't forget to put it in quotation marks to show its not your words but that of someone else.

THE ALLEY

The reading about the site reseach was a really detailed one. The author really describes in detail the people around and how they are using the space. Te authoer also uses imagery and also is able to touch the senses of the reader making it possible for the reader to feel and imagine the place. She was able to create a picture in the mind of the reader and get the reader involved. I really liked how the author starts the paper off by giving an intro about bowling and how it all started. I think a good paper having a background information makes the reader wether ignorant or not about bowling has some idea about it. She then goes on to really talk about her site and concludes to put together all her ideas about her research.

15 min class observation

My observation was on a particular math class. I got into  the class and sat in the last seat to have a better view of everyone walking into class. the professor was behind her desk on her phone texting because it wasn't yet time to start class. She looked like she was into what ever she was doing and didn't want to be disturbed. I was just watching some of the students walk in. The class seemed to be made up of about 25 students. Those who had already arrived seemed like they didn't want to be in class at the time of the day. It was 9.00am and class starts at 9.05am.There were students who walked in ready to go and others just seemed with regrets. Some of the students looked like they had been struck by lightening with their hair all frizzy and all over the place looking pale as diseased. Their outfits also gave the impression they just jumped out of bed and threw on whatever they found laying around the room. Unlike the rugged group there were the ones that looked ready, neat and conscious of what was going on. Finally the class was filled up and teaching begun. This is when the two groups of people really stood out as to their qualities. It turned out that the rugged group were unprepared and not conscious and ready for the class. They didn't contribute to any of the discussion because their minds seemed to be in wonder land. The other group that were ready  contributed to everything going on in the class.

PENSA

My project is going to be on a group formed in the Pentecostal church. The church is located in Boston and has always been there for a long time. This group has been there for a really long time but i don't know exactly when. basically it comprises of both the youth and anyone in college but one has to register to be a part of this group. The least i know about this group is every year they have a convention in another state where all members from that group all over the US come together to teach each other stuff as well as have fun. They have meeting and activities on weekly basis. This group is also bible base meaning they focus more on the bible and its studies. The bible is the foundation of this group as well as their involvement makes the group as strong as it is now.it keeps growing more and more in number as people grow older as well.
Even though i am a part of the church i'm not a part of the group which i always wanted to.There are some questions i would like to answer during this research. First i would like to know when it all began and how long its been like this and how many states its covered as well as the number of countries involved. I have an idea as to the information that some of the members have started groups in individual schools and i would like to know more about that and how i might be able to get  involved with is and also get the group growing. I find it fascinating how they all get along at meetings and they have really interesting seminars and activities they organize and i would like to know how that is going as well. Not only that, i also would like to know how they got this far without breaking apart.

New Semester

The reading we did about Iowa 80 was a good and interesting reading. some of the elements used in the reading made it interesting to read. There were description, images, tone, and how the story was written. First of all the author wrote the story with subtopics which were about the locations he went to from one place to another. The descriptions of the place as well as the images gave the reader a feel of how the place or location looked like as well as the people or characters involved.  The tone gave as a feel of how the characters interacted with each other and his point of view. In all the reading was good and interesting just long to read which is a typical thing for a story as such.
